Statistics
- There are over 130 million orphans in the world.
- There are over 500,000 children in the U.S. foster care system today.
- The average age of a child in foster care is 10-years old.
- The child waits an average of 5 years in foster care before they are adopted.
- 127,000 of them cannot go back to their home of origin and are legally free to adopt.
- There are over 20,000 children that “age out” of the foster care system each year, meaning they were never adopted and do not have a permanent family.
- A survey revealed that 45% of Americans believe that children enter foster care due to juvenile delinquency. NOT TRUE. They enter because of abuse, neglect, or abandoned.
- Foster care costs taxpayers $283 million a day!
